This text is about a story in the west of the USA in the 19th century. We have two characters, the young, brave, determined, Mattie Ross, whose father was murdered by  Tom Chaney, and of course the pitiful, dangerous, provoking Tom Chaney who is fleeing from justice. There is tension. This is a typical situation of a duel/ showdown/ confrontation.

This text illustrates the myth of goodies and baddies in the west of the USA because of the presence of guns. It is a typical situation of revenge in the west at this time. It also illustrated this notion because it represents a showdown (duel) between a girl who represents the good guys (brave, reckless, determined, on a quest for justice) and an Outlaw, running from justice (arrogant, machiavelic, fearless).
